This is our idea of how the water flow will work. The collected runoff water will go to a wastewater holding tank, then be pumped through the microbial cellulose biofilter. To fully break down most nitrates, the water from the microbial cellulose tank will circulate with the wastewater until the pH probe indicates that the level of nitrate is low enough to be safe. Once this level is reached, the water will flow out.
Here is the legend for the pH strips we are using to test how nitrate levels are affected in our prototype. A similar concept would be used in the product, most likely digital and self-sufficient.
