How it Works

There are three main stages of our product design. Farms generate a lot of agricultural waste, which usually ends up being burned. Our goal is to use this agricultural waste as a sugar source for the growth of microbial cellulose. This microbial cellulose can then be used as a carbon source for Pseudomonas stutzeri to be immobilized onto. This medium can then be put into the bioreactor on the farm, denitrifying the runoff water. We imagine that the process of making the microbial cellulose inoculated with the bacteria would be offsite, so our project focuses more on the design of the bioreactor.
